ST. LOUIS – Senior high jumper Kameesha Smith and redshirt-junior thrower Logan Calvin swept the Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week awards after they both jumped into the NCAA top-25 with their performances at SIU's Don DeNoon Dual over the weekend.
Smith opened her senior campaign with a huge personal-best mark, clearing 1.80 meters (5-10.75 ft.), winning the high jump and continuing her winning streak in the high jump that dates back to Jan. 25, 2020. The last time that Smith didn't win the high jump at a meet was at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (June 5-8, 2019) where she placed 12th overall and earned Second Team All-American honors.
Her winning mark of 1.80 meters is currently No. 1 in the Valley, No. 2 mark all-time in school history and tied for No. 9 in the NCAA.
After posting big marks at the first meet of the year, Calvin improved those marks even further winning both the weight throw and the shot put over the weekend. In the weight throw, Calvin had a personal-best throw of 20.83 meters (68-4.25 ft.) which marked the first time in his career he threw above 20 meters. That throw is currently the No. 1 mark in the MVC, No. 3 all-time in Illinois State track & field history and No. 21 in the NCAA.
In the shot put, Calvin recorded a personal-best throw of 18.51 meters (60-8.75 ft.), which ranks him No. 2 in the Valley, improves his No. 2 mark in school history and is No. 25 in the NCAA.
To qualify for the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Smith and Calvin must finish the season as one of the top-16 student-athletes in the nation for their respective events.

Smith, Calvin and the rest of the Illinois State track & field team will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
