ST. CHARLES, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics team competed in its biggest meet of the season Friday night, as the Redbirds squared off against five other teams in the collegiate round of the GymQuarters Invitational hosted at the Family Arena. Sophomore Angelica Labat led the way for the Redbirds and took home a win in the all-around competition as ISU finished sixth overall in its first of two meets on the weekend.

•   Lindenwood: 192.725
•   Southeast Missouri State: 191.725
•   Air Force: 191.400
•   Illinois State: 190.225
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We are certainly not happy about our finish tonight. I thought we got off to a strong start with solid scores on floor and beam, but a disappointing outcome on bars and beam really hurt us. We will learn from the mistakes made tonight and regroup as we have another chance to compete this weekend in our dual meet with Lindenwood on Sunday."
Gymnast Notes:
•   Labat bested four other gymnasts to win the all-around competition with a score of 38.925, just short of her career-high score of 38.950 set last season against SEMO … her score of 9.775 on floor was the highest individual score of the night for the Redbirds and she also led the way on beam and vault with identical scores of 9.750.
•   Mia Quigg also posted a score of 9.750 on floor for the Redbirds, and Isabelle Fox notched a 9.700 to round out a solid effort for ISU with a team score of 48.475.
•   Newcomers Jasmine Neely and J'Chelle Heard each posted scores of 9.675 on vault, as the team put together a strong score of 48.275.

The Redbirds will stay in St. Charles for a Sunday meet at Lindenwood, which is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Robert F. Hyland Arena.
