NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball program has added a pair of immediately eligible Division II transfers from the state of California, the team announced Saturday.
Second-year freshman pitcher Cameron Mabee comes to Illinois State from Cal Poly Pomona while fourth-year junior catcher Jesse Hayes comes to the 'Birds from Cal State San Bernardino.

Mabee threw 27 innings for Cal Poly Pomona in 2020, recording a 3.67 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP. He also posted a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 30:6. Over his final two outings of 2020, Mabee threw a combined 12 innings, fanned 17 batters, and gave up a mere five hits and one run.

Prior to splitting time at Cal State San Bernardino in 2020, Hayes was a two-year starter behind the plate at Fullerton College. In 2018, Hayes threw out an impressive 20-of-56 (35.7%) attempted base stealers. He also provided some pop while at-bat, smashing seven extra-base hits over 53 at-bats in 2017.
Both student-athletes have been practicing with the team since the start of the spring semester.
The Redbirds are set to open their season on Feb. 19 with the first game of a four-game series at Belmont.
