Redbirds in Ninth Place at Strong Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. – With three Redbird golfers still on the course when the round was shut down for darkness, the Redbirds currently sit in a tie of ninth place in the 19-team field at the 2021 Red Rocks Invitational.

Grand Canyon holds the team lead with a two-round 575, while Gonzaga (566), Cal Baptist (594), Seattle (596), and Southern Utah (592) round out the top five, with the Redbirds sitting with a 610.

With one round completed, individual Maria Toledo Bailey has the team's top score with a 74, which is tied for ninth, while Ali Schrock is tied for 22nd, Avalon Woodward tied for 36th, Emma Sutton tied for 46th, Emma Rouger 57th, and Becca Black tied for 82nd. Sutton and Schrock each have one hole to play in the second round, while Toledo Bailey has two.

Sutton had a team-best three birdies over the opening 18 holes, as she also added six pars for her six-over 78 for the first round. She followed that up with a strong second round that saw her record three birdies and nine pars and sits two over par on the round and is eight over for the two rounds with one hole to play on the second round.

Schrock was the team leader over the first 18 holes, as she carded a four-over 76 with two birdies and 10 pars on the round. She came back with a second round of two birdies and 10 pars, finishing seven strokes over par on the round and 11 strokes over par for the day with a hole to play in her second round.

Woodward, who was just behind Schrock after the opening 18 holes, opened her day with a five-over 77 on the first round and had a birdie and 11 pars on the round. She came back with another five-over 77 with a birdie and a dozen pars to finish the day 10 shots over par for 36 holes.

Rouger had a pair of birdies and 10 pars, finishing the first 18 holes with a seven-over 79 and answered with an eight-over 80 on the second round with two birdies and eight pars.

Black, in her final campaign with the Redbirds, opened her day with a birdie on her first hole, and added 10 other pars through the first round for a 10-over 82. She bounced back with a six-over 78, where she had a pair of birdies and eight pars.

Playing as an individual, Maria Toledo Bailey had the team's lowest score over the first 18 holes, as she had three birdies and 10 pars, finishing with a two-over 74 for the first round. She came back and is three-over in the afternoon round, and stands five shots over par through 34 holes in the tournament with two holes to play.

The round continues tomorrow with the completion of the second round, followed by an 18-hole final round.
