NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team (16-4) won its eighth-straight game on Wednesday night, shutting out Northern Illinois (6-12), 6-0, in nonconference action.

BY THE NUMBERS / KEY INNINGS
- A bases-clearing double by Jayden Standish in the opening frame helped the Redbirds take an early 2-0 lead over the Huskies.
- Illinois State used three hits and an NIU error to scratch three more runs across in the second inning, which included a two-RBI double from Mack Leonard and RBI single by Emme Olson.
- Morgan Day and the Redbirds sat the Huskies down in order in the fourth, before Leonard lifted her third home run of the season over the right center field wall for a 6-0 advantage.
- Day fanned five more Huskies and gave up just her second hit in the final three innings of the game, securing her eighth win in the circle and her fifth shutout, while turning in her fourth double-digit strikeout (12) performance of the season. Â
