ST. LOUIS – Senior high jumper Kristin Higgins has been named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning the high jump at the Ole Miss Classic last weekend.
After ending the indoor season on a high note with a personal-best clearance and an All-Valley performance at the MVC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Higgins continued her success at the first outdoor meet of the year placing first with an outdoor personal best of 1.75 meters (5-8.75 ft.).
Her clearance of 1.75 meters ties for the seventh-best high jump mark cleared in Illinois State outdoor track & field history and leads the Valley by 1 ¾ inches. Currently, Higgins is ranked No. 18 in the NCAA West Region and tied for No. 25 in the NCAA. Should Higgins stay among the top-32 high jumpers in the West Region for the remainder of the season, she will advance to the NCAA West Preliminary Round in College Station, Texas from May 27-29.
The weekly conference award marks the second of Higgins career and first earned during the outdoor season. She previously was named MVC Female Field Athlete of the Week last year on January 21, 2020 for breaking a 15-year high jump meet record at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup.
