NORMAL, Ill. – Having just missed out on scores of 195 or above several times in 2021, the Illinois State gymnastics team was poised to have a big day Sunday in their home quad meet against No. 24 Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Lindenwood. The Redbirds finally surpassed that plateau and posted a season-high score of 195.725 to place second behind meet winner Central Michigan at Redbird Arena.
Scoring Breakdown:
•   Central Michigan: 196.425
•   Illinois State: 195.725
•   Northern Illinois: 195.050
•   Lindenwood: 194.800
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We've been building for a performance like this the past few weeks and just knew they were capable of these big scores and hitting on all four events. There were a couple mistakes here and there but overall, we were so much better than we were in the last home meet and for us to post a season-high score here in Redbird Arena was awesome. This group built every single routine and did phenomenal on floor to close it out."
Team Notes:
•   The Redbirds finished strong with a season-best score of 49.175 on floor to move into second place overall.
•   ISU also posted season-best scores on bars (49.025) and beam (48.600) that aided in the new team-high score.
