ST. LOUIS – Redshirt sophomore Mary Crompton and senior Paige Saylor were both recognized on the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Teams, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. Crompton was selected to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team while Saylor was named Honorable Mention.
Crompton leads the Valley and is ranked seventh nationally in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.4% from behind the arc while averaging 2.6 triples per game. The Iowa City, Iowa-native is averaging 11.2 points per contest in her redshirt sophomore season, but currently holds a 4.0 and will complete her undergraduate degree in just three years in May, majoring in Physiology, Neuroscience and Behavior.
Saylor has started in every game this year, leading the team with 31.4 minutes played while dishing out a team-high 3.1 assists per contest on the season. The Martinsville, Indiana-native is averaging 6.4 points playing at point guard for ISU while holding a 3.9 GPA. Saylor will graduate in May 2021 with a degree in Physiology, Neuroscience and Behavior.
The criteria for the scholar-athlete balloting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75-percent of a team's games must carry at least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Student-athletes must have also reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
