NORMAL, Ill. – Fourth-year junior Jack Anderson fired a seven-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts in a 12-0 win over SIUE on Tuesday at Duffy Bass Field.
The seven-inning one-hitter is the first for the Redbirds since Steve Heilenbach threw one on 5/1/2013 against Webster.
Anderson conceded a second-inning single and a pair of walks but induced two double plays to face one above the minimum, seeing 22 SIUE batters for Illinois State (17-22, 7-5 Missouri Valley Conference). His seven innings pitched are a career high.
Fifth-year seniors Jordan Libman and Joe Butler and fifth-year juniors Aidan Huggins and junior Jeremy Gaines each recorded multiple RBIs to lead the Redbird offense. Huggins blasted a 422-foot home run to left field.
The Cougars (19-17 overall, 9-9 OVC) walked 10 Redbird batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Libman opened the scoring with an RBI single before a 422-foot home run by Huggins to put ISU up, 3-0.
The Redbirds capitalized on four SIUE walks in the 4th inning as Gaines delivered the key blow with a two-RBI double that ultimately allowed Joe Butler to score on a Cougar wild pitch.
Two-RBI singles by Libman and Joe Butler put the 'Birds above the 10 after seven innings run-rule as the 'Birds cruised to victory.
