ST. LOUIS – Junior hurdler/sprinter Cole Maguire was featured in this week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight for his excellence in classroom and on the track as well as his involvement in the Bloomington-Normal community.
To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
As a Business Administration major at Illinois State, Maguire has maintained a 3.89 grade point average and has been named to the AFNI Athletics Honor Roll, the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team and the Dean's List during his collegiate career. Following the 2019-2020 track & field season, Maguire was named a MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award recipient.
The Indianapolis, Indiana native is actively involved both on the ISU campus and in the Bloomington-Normal community. In addition to being a key member of the Redbird track & field team, Maguire works for the Illinois State Athletics Department as an Events and Game Operations Intern and volunteers at local homeless shelter, Home Sweet Home Ministries.
On the track, Maguire is a two-time All-Valley performer, earning his first all-conference accolades as a freshman during the 2019 outdoor season, where he finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles at the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Maguire earned his second All-Valley honors earlier this year as a member of the men's 4x400-meter relay team that placed second at the MVC Indoor Championships.
