ST. LOUIS – Sydney Laufenberg and Logan Calvin collected three of Illinois State track & field's six event wins at the Pacesetter Sports Invite over the weekend, earning them each Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors this week.
A senior for the Redbirds, Laufenberg won the discus for the fifth time this season, throwing a winning mark of 51.65 meters (169-5 ft.). She has thrown 51 meters or better at every meet this season and currently leads the Valley and ranks No. 19 in the NCAA West Region with a season-best mark of 54.90 meters (180-1 ft.).
Laufenberg has earned MVC Female Field Athlete of the Week honors three times during the 2021 season and four times overall in her career.
Calvin, a redshirt-junior, won both the shot put and the discus at the Pacesetter Sports Invite, throwing 18.55m (60-10.75 ft.) in the shot put and 51.12m (167-8 ft.) in the discus. In addition to his wins in the shot put and the discus, Calvin also placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.36 meters (191-6 ft.). He has won at least one event at four of the six meets for the Redbirds this season and has won at least two on three different occasions.
The Bloomington, Indiana native currently is ranked No. 15 in the shot put and No. 47 in the hammer throw in the NCAA West Region and is in the top-five in the conference in the shot put (No. 2), the discus (No. 5) and the hammer throw (No. 4).
Calvin is a six-time MVC Male Field Athlete of the Week honoree, earning the selection four times just this season.

The Redbirds will look to win two conference titles next weekend when they compete at the MVC Outdoor Championships in Carbondale, Illinois from May 14-16. According to Southern Illinois and the Missouri Valley Conference guidelines, no fans will be allowed to attend. Fans will be able to watch the three-day meet on ESPN3.
