DALLAS, Texas – The Illinois State baseball team was swept at Dallas Baptist after a walk-off grand slam in game one and walk-off three-run homer in game two on Saturday at Horner Ballpark.
The walk-off grand slam came in 9th inning of an 11-7 DBU win while the walk-off three-run homer came in the 7th inning of a 6-3 DBU win.
Illinois State (18-28 overall, 8-11 Missouri Valley Conference) was led by three hits apiece from fourth-year junior Kyle Soberano and fifth-year senior Jordan Libman.
Fifth-year senior Joe Butler hit a key game-tying home run in game one.
Andres Sosa hit the walk-off grand slam and Austin Bell hit the walk-off three-run homer for Dallas Baptist (28-11 overall, 13-2 MVC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
Libman led off the game with a double down the left field line before fourth-year sophomore Jake McCaw drove him home.
The Patriots responded with two runs in the bottom of the 1st before adding another in the 2nd.
Fifth-year junior Aidan Huggins singled to score Soberano in the 3rd to cut the lead to 3-2 prior to a solo home run by DBU in the 5th inning.
Fourth-year junior Nick Gile recorded a pinch-hit single before Joe Butler blasted the game-tying home run to left field in the 7th inning.
The Redbirds scored twice in the 8th, but the Patriots responded to tie it at 6-6.
Game Two
A McCaw single put ISU up 1-0 before he scored on a wild pitch. Fourth-year junior Jack Butler singled home fourth-year junior Tyson Hays to give the 'Birds a 3-0 after one inning.
DBU got one back in the 2nd to make it 3-1 before tying the game with a pair of solo shots in the 5th inning.
Fourth-year junior Colin Wyman induced a 6th-inning double play to escape a first and third jam prior to DBU's three-run, walk-off home run in the 7th.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- McCaw has 26 hits in his last 48 at-bats. He now has an eight-game hitting streak.
- Joe Butler played his 200th game as a Redbird in game two, becoming the 14th player to reach the 200 mark in school history.
- Game two was originally scheduled to be nine innings but became a 7-inning game after game one reach the 9-inning mark.
