McGowan Selected To Receive The Northrip Endowed Scholarship

NORMAL, Ill. – Each year a deserving Illinois State gymnastics student-athlete is selected to receive the Rob & Nancy Northrip Endowed Scholarship at Illinois State, and this year junior Katherine McGowan was chosen for the honor by Redbird head coach Bob Conkling.

"Katie will be an excellent representative for the Northrip Scholarship this year," Conkling said. "Katie was a consistent competitor for us in the uneven bar lineup her freshman year. This past season, she was sidelined with an elbow injury but is working hard to get back into lineup for this upcoming season. Katie is a great student and a hard-working athlete that should contribute to our team's success this year."

McGowan pompeted in nine meets on bars for the Redbirds during her freshman season in 2020, scoring a season high 9.6750 twice during the season. In the classroom, she is majoring in exercise science and maintains a 3.80 GPA.

The Northrip Scholarship was established in 2009 by Nancy and Rob Northrip for female student-athletes majoring in education, with a preference for gymnasts. Nancy lettered in gymnastics for the Redbirds and Rob was a Redbird cheerleader. The scholarship is awarded annually to a junior female student-athlete.

This endowed scholarship is among 33 available to Illinois State student-athletes that are funded by private donors.
