ST. LOUIS – For the first time this season, fifth-year senior high jumper Kameesha Smith was named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
At the Illini Invitational, Smith cleared a season-best 1.80m (5-10.75 ft.) in the women's high jump. The clearance was also Smith's best mark since she set the Illinois State school record in the event at the 2021 MVC Indoor Championships with a jump of 1.83m (6-0 ft.).
Smith, who qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships last season, now sits at No. 15 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the MVC.
Smith has earned Field Athlete of the Week honors five times throughout her Redbird career, four of which came during the 2021 indoor season.
