Third-Straight Sweep For The Redbirds Ends Busy Weekend of Tennis

INDIANAPOLIS – Three matches in three days proved to be an easy task for Illinois State, as the Redbirds completed a weekend of sweeps with a 7-0 win over IUPUI Sunday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club.

"It's been a great weekend for us winning three dual matches without losing a set," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. "IUPUI was shorthanded, but competed well and made us play."

The doubles point went to the Redbirds, thanks to a 6-4 win at No. 1 by Tijana Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic and a 6-2 victory at No. 2 by Laura Fitzgerald and Alexandra Abyasova. In singles action, the Redbirds won in straight sets in each of the four matches played, as IUPUI did not have a player at No. 5 or No. 6.  Zlatanovic defeated Christina Stankovic 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Abyasova took down Meghan Bernard by a score of 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Damnjanovic won 6-1, 6-3 over Sarah Lounsbury at the No. 3 spot and Penelope Abreu completed the clean sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Samantha Hayward.

ISU is back in action next Sunday, Feb. 6, against in-state foe Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, with first serve set for noon.
