Normal, Ill – Illinois State Swimming and Diving cruised to a 218-81 win over McKendree in its first meet of the 2022-2023 season at Horton Pool Saturday. The Redbirds won all but one event en route to the big win over the Bearcats.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Redbirds book ended the meet with wins in both relays. Chloe Tyler, Madyson Morse, Giulia Basco and Diana Walker posted a 3:53.99 for a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Tyler, Ella Turken, Emma Feltzer and Walker led Illinois State to a 200-yard freestyle relay win with a 1:38.93.
- Illinois State dominated in diving, finishing 1-2-3 in both 1M and 3M events. That included a sweep of the top spots from sophomore Eva Reyes, who won with a 285.9 in 3M and a mark of 288.9 in the 1M dive. Fellow sophomore Gaby Russell also finished top-3 in both events as she posted a second-place mark of 250.35 in 3M dive and a third-place finish in 1M with a 242.77.
- Basco, Madyson Morse and Feltzer each secured multiple event wins Saturday. Basco took home the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly events with a 2:07.37 in the 200 and 58.22 in the 100. Morse, the defending 200 IM MVC champion, won with a 2:12.68 in that event and a 1:06.50 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Feltzer won in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:55.57 and in the 100-yard freestyle with a 52.90.
- Redbird freshmen posted a strong showing in their collegiate debut as Basco highlighted a group that finished with four wins on Saturday. Tyler secured a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.57. Turken posted a 24.94 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Tyler, Basco and Turken were also key in Illinois State's two relay wins.
- Cassidy Carey and Sydney Hoff also posted victories Saturday as Carey swam to a 2:05.83 in the 200-yard backstroke and Hoff posted a 2:26.45 to win the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Redbirds head to Champaign next Friday for an in-state dual with Illinois and Southern Illinois. Action is set to get underway at 3 p.m. CT.
