NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Baseball 2022 alum Nick Gile has been signed by the Colorado Rockies, Gile announced via social media late Thursday night.
Gile enjoyed a breakout 2022 season with the Redbirds, hitting .284 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs. Gile hit .206 over 155 at-bats in 2021.
Gile, who was not drafted or signed following the 2022 MLB Draft, played the summer of 2022 in the MLB Draft League with the State College Spikes, hitting .246 with a pair of home runs over 114 at-bats, per baseball-reference.com's player page. Gile saw limited action during his time at Creighton in 2020 but broke school records in career RBIs (111) and career doubles (44) at Madison College, where he played in 2018 and 2019. Gile was a First-Team All-NJCAA All-American in 2019.
The Menomonee Falls, Wis. native becomes Illinois State's eighth professional player under fifth-year head coach Steve Holm, joining the seven non-MLB players listed below, as well as 2019 Redbird alum Joe Aeilts, who also spent time in the Colorado Rockies organization before retiring prior to the 2022 season.
