SAINT LOUIS – Fifth year guard Juliunn Redmond earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office Monday afternoon, following a weekend in which she averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists to help ISU pick up two Valley victories on the road and improve to 11-2 in league standings.
This is the third Player of the Week accolade for Redmond and a league-best sixth weekly honor for Illinois State this season. Redmond is one of two MVC athletes to have earned Player of the Week three times this year and ISU remains the only program to have had three different student-athletes selected as the Valley Player of the Week, with Redmond (Dec. 13, Jan. 31, Feb. 14), redshirt junior Mary Crompton (Jan. 10) and junior DeAnna Wilson (Dec. 27, Jan. 17) all previously honored.
Redmond led all scorers in the Redbirds' win at Loyola Chicago, recording 16 points paired with six rebounds and three assists. The fifth year then exploded for a career-high 37 points in ISU's weekend finale at Valparaiso, adding five rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes played. Redmond's 37 points was not only a career-high, but it was also the most points scored by an Illinois State player since 1992 and the most by a Valley player since Jan. 2020.
The Chicago-native celebrated joining the Redbirds' 1,000-point club on Saturday as well and now ranks 28th all-time in scoring with 1,034 career points.
