Redmond Earns Spot on #NCAAWBB Starting Five

INDIANAPOLIS - Fifth year guard Juliunn Redmond earned a spot on this week's NCAA Women's Basketball Starting Five, as announced by the organization earlier Wednesday afternoon. The Starting Five recognizes five standout performances across Division I basketball from the previous week.

Joining Redmond on this week's Starting Five was Jordyn Jenkins (Southern California), Maddy Siegrist (Villanova), NaLyssa Smith (Baylor) and Taniyah Thompson (East Carolina).

Redmond averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Redbirds picked up two Missouri Valley Conference victories on the road and improved to 11-2 in league standings.

Redmond led all scorers with 16 points in Illinois State's 57-53 win at Loyola Chicago on Feb. 10, adding six rebounds and three assists.

She then exploded for a career-high 37 points at Valparaiso, adding five rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes played as Illinois State prevailed 85-80. Redmond's 37 points was not only a career-high, but it was also the most points scored by an Illinois State player since 1992 and the most by a Valley player since Jan. 2020.

The Chicago-native celebrated joining the Redbirds' 1,000-point club on Saturday as well and now ranks 28th all-time in scoring with 1,034 career points.

Illinois State, 15-9, has its final homestand this weekend, hosting a pair of MVC opponents with Missouri State coming to town on Friday, Feb. 18, followed by Southern Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 20. Fans can purchase the Double Bird package to receive tickets to the last two home games AND an F61 parking pass for the price of $15.
