DES MOINES – The Illinois State women's basketball team (15-12, 11-5 MVC) dropped its first of two games this weekend at Drake (14-12, 6-9 MVC) on Friday evening, falling on the road, 104-62.
Fifth year Juliunn Redmond had a team-high 11 points with senior Kayel Newland and junior DeAnna Wilson each adding 10.
Drake had five players finish in double figures, led by junior guard Megan Meyer's 18 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead off a Meyer three-pointer and never looked back, leading for the remaining 39:22 of the game.
Drake shot 58.5% (38-of-65) from the floor on the night, putting up a blazing 66.7% (22-of-33) first half field goal percentage. The Bulldogs led by as much as 50 points in the fourth quarter and outrebounded ISU, 42-29, on the game.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Newland went a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and is currently shooting at a 73.6% (13-of-17) clip from behind the arc in conference games this year.
- Redmond has led the Redbirds in scoring in six-straight games now and has finished in double figures in 20 contests this season.
- The last time an opponent scored over 100 points on ISU was also Drake, who scored 101 on the Redbirds in February 2017.
