Redbirds Host Eastern Illinois; Travel To Purdue This Weekend

NORMAL, Ill. – It will be another busy weekend for Illinois State, as the Redbirds (6-3) will host Eastern Illinois (0-8) at home on Saturday before heading to West Lafayette, Indiana, on Sunday for a match against Purdue (6-3).

Saturday's match against the in-state foe Panthers is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington. Following the completion of that match, the Redbirds will hit the road to take on the Boilermakers at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

ISU heads into the weekend on a two-match win streak, following a pair of victories last weekend in Omaha, Nebraska, against Omaha and Creighton. The Redbirds were led in those matches by sophomore Tijana Zlatanovic, who won twice the No. 1 singles spot for ISU on way to being named the Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week.

EIU heads in looking for its first win this spring and is coming off a tough 4-3 loss to Northern Kentucky last Friday. Most of the Panthers' success has come from the upper portion of the Panthers line-up, as Rachel Papavasilopoulos leads the team with three singles wins while Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova and Christine Gouws both have posted two singles wins.

Purdue split a pair of matches last weekend, with a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 16 Washington on Friday before a 7-0 win over DePaul on Sunday. The Boilermakers are led by junior Csilla Fodor, who has an overall record of 21-3 and is ranked at No. 77 in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
