Calvin Throws Second Best Shot Put Mark in School History at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior thrower Logan Calvin launched the second-farthest shot put throw in school history as the Illinois State track & field program wrapped up competition at the Texas Relays, Raleigh Relays and Bobcat Invitational on Saturday evening.

Competing at the Texas Relays, Calvin threw the shot put 19.54m (64-1.25 ft.) to finish fourth in event, as he inches closer to the school record. Calvin's mark also ranks No. 3 in the NCAA and West Region.

"Phenomenal performance for Logan today," Director of Track & Field/XC Jeff Bovee said. "He is establishing himself as one of the top throwers in the nation and will get more chances at breaking a very good school record."

At Texas State, fifth-year senior Kameesha Smith cleared 1.78m (5-10 ft.) in the women's high jump, matching her outdoor personal best in the event. Her mark is tied for No. 6 in the NCAA West Region on the season.

Freshman Arianna Walker made her Illinois State debut on the outdoor track, competing in the 100m dash. With a time of 11.89 (w/3.4), Walker finished seventh overall.

Juniors Maddi Exline and Joseph Morrison led the middle-distance group at the Raleigh Relays, as the top Redbird finishers in the 800m races. Exline clocked a time of 2:10.50 in the women's race to finish 28th in the field out of 123 competitors. Morrison finished 11th overall in a time of 1:52.08 in the field of 145 runners.

"Windy conditions in Raleigh slowed down the 800s today, but the crew competed well against the competition," Bovee said. "Overall, Texas and Raleigh provided an opportunity to kick off the outdoor season earlier than usual while giving us a chance to compete against some of the top programs in the country."

The Redbirds conclude action from the Texas Relays, Raleigh Relays and Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, March 26, beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
