NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will begin its spring break trip with a quick trip north to Milwaukee, as the Redbirds are set to take on Marquette on Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
"About halfway through the season we're in a great place to really challenge ourselves in the next few matches," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek stated. "We know we'll have tough opponents on our spring break trip, starting with Marquette. Our doubles game has come a long way since the fall and has really helped us so far this spring, so we will look for that to continue outdoors as well."
Saturday's match at Marquette will be the first of three next week for the Redbirds. Following that match, ISU will head to Las Vegas on Tuesday, March 8, to take on Grand Canyon before heading to Irvine, California, on Friday, March 11, to compete against UC-Irvine to wrap up the West Coast swing.
The Redbirds (7-4) have won three out of their last four matches, including three-straight against Omaha, Creighton and Eastern Illinois. Most recently, ISU was defeated by Purdue 4-0 last Sunday in West Lafayette.Â
Marquette (6-6) begins a three-match homestand when it welcomes in ISU on Saturday. The Golden Eagles recently picked up a 5-2 win against UIC last Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Marquette claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and then secured wins in four of six singles matches to pick up its third win in the last four matches.
