McCaw Homers in 6-2 Loss at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Fifth-year junior Jake McCaw smashed his 7th home run of the season in Illinois State's 6-2 loss to Kansas at Hoglund Ballpark on Saturday.

The blast pulled the Redbirds (12-13 overall, 1-2 MVC) even with the Jayhawks (12-17) after four innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

KU plated a two-out run in the 1st inning before McCaw tied the game with a solo shot in the 4th inning.

The Jayhawks scored once in the 5th inning, but fifth-year senior Nick Gile singled in a run to tie the game at 2-2 in the 6th inning.

KU scored twice in the bottom of the frame before adding a pair of two-out runs in the 8th inning to seal the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Third-year sophomore Ryan Cermak had hits in his first two at-bats to continue his stellar week.
  • Fourth-year junior Justin Schubert retired the lone Jayhawk batter faced.
  • The Redbirds have lost 43-straight games when trailing at the conclusion of the 6th inning.
