NORMAL, Ill.– Illinois State baseball's third-year sophomore Ryan Cermak and fifth-year junior Jake McCaw were named Academic All-District® in District 5 (IL, IN, MI, OH) by CoSIDA, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
The 2021‐22 Academic All‐District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their
combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The duo will move onto the Academic All-American® ballot as the honorees are scheduled to be announced on June 8.
Cermak holds a 3.73 GPA in Parks and Recreation Management. He is hitting a team-high .323 and has 17 home runs, becoming the first Redbird since 1999 to hit at least 15 in a single season. Cermak has also played elite defense in center field and leads the team in runs scored with 40, in addition to posting seven steals.
McCaw graduated with 3.92 in Business Information Systems in 2021 and holds a 4.00 in his MBA program. He is hitting .295 and has 11 home runs. McCaw also leads the team with 39 RBIs and has swiped a team-high eight bases. He is the only Redbird to play in every game of 2022.
Cermak and McCaw are the first Redbird duo since 1999 to hit at least 28 home runs combined.
Illinois State had not had an Academic All-District® honoree since 2015 (Paul DeJong and Jared Hendren).
