SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A four-run fourth inning propelled Illinois State (23-27, 12-13 MVC) to a 4-2 win over the Indiana State Sycamores in the Redbirds' first game of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Illinois State will advance to play tonight (May 12) at 7:40 p.m. CT at Killian Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Indiana State was the first on the board as Bella Peterson went deep to left field, giving the Sycamores an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Indiana State in the top of the second, but Amanda Fox got her first strikeout of the game to leave the bases full of Sycamores.
- The Redbirds registered their first hit of the game as Jayden Standish led off the bottom of the second with a single to right field, but Illinois State came up empty.
- For the first time in the game, the Sycamores went down in order in the top of the third with two infield pop ups and a fly out to left field.
- Indiana State added another run to its lead in the top of the fourth as Abi Chipps singled to right field and Lexie Siwek scored from second after Swiek drew a leadoff walk and a Sycamore sacrifice bunt moved her up a base.
- Illinois State took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Kaili Chval led off the inning with a walk and Delainey Bryant followed up with a single to right field. Standish walked to load the bases, and a single up the middle from Abby Knight tied the game at 2-2, and Knight ended up on second after an error by the Sycamores. Rebecca Moffett continued the big inning for the 'Birds as she singled up the middle, Knight and Standish scoring to give the Redbirds a 4-2 lead after four complete.
- After two leadoff hits and a fielder's choice put a pair of Sycamores on the corners, Fox was able to pitch her way out of the jam, getting a foul out and a ground ball to end the inning.
- It was a quiet fifth and sixth innings for both squads as the Sycamores had a pair of singles in the fifth and Bryant doubled in the home half of the inning. In the sixth, Indiana State recorded a single on a bunt, and the Redbirds were retired in order to keep the game at 4-2, Illinois State with the lead.
- The Sycamores went down in order in the top of the seventh to secure the Redbirds 4-2 victory in their first game of the MVC Tournament.

Illinois State advances in the MVC Tournament and will play the No. 3 Southern Illinois Salukis (27-18-1, 16-10) at 7:40 p.m. CT tonight, Thursday, May 12 at Killian Stadium.
