NORMAL, Ill. – As a kickoff to the 2022-23 season and a thank you to its loyal fans, Illinois State Athletics is excited to host a fun-filled evening for the community on Friday, August 5, at Hancock Stadium featuring Redbird Fan Fair and Community Movie Night.
The 17th annual Redbird Fan Fair will kick off the evening outside Hancock Stadium in parking lot G73 at 5 p.m. Immediately following Fan Fair, a FREE screening of the Academy-award winning feature Encanto will begin on the video board at Hancock Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Gates to Hancock Stadium for the movie will open at 6:00 p.m. Both events are presented Illinois State Athletics and by Cumulus Bloomington – B104, WBNQ 101.5 FM, and the Voice of the Redbirds AM 1230 WJBC.
The Redbird Fan Fair is designed for kids and features student-athletes and staff from Illinois State's 19 varsity sports teams. The event will include interactive activities, games and stations for kids including inflatables provided by Fun On The Run. More details about Fan Fair will follow in the weeks leading up to the event.
Continuing an annual tradition of opening the doors to the community for movie night, this year's showing will feature Disney's smash hit animated musical Encanto. Released in November of 2021, the film features all-new songs by Emmy®, GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Hamilton," "Moana") that hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for weeks. It tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.
Concession stands on the East side of the stadium will be open, and food can be eaten in the East or West bleachers. NO outside food or beverage will be allowed into Hancock Stadium. Free parking will also be available in lots adjacent to the stadium. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets, sleeping bags or mats to sit on to watch the movie, as no chairs will be allowed on the turf. Those wishing to sit in the stands will also have that opportunity.
