CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Five members of the 2021-22 Illinois State women's golf squad: Vinisha Gunaseelan, Kira Wolf, Kehler Koss, Ali Schrock, and Avalon Woodward; have been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team.
To be selected to the All-American Scholar Team women's golfers need a minimum GPA of 3.50. This season marks the seventh consecutive year that the Redbirds have had at least five golfers earn this honor. The squad ended the 2021-22 season at the NCAA Stillwater Regional, ISU's first NCAA Regional appearance since 2013.
Schrock, a native of Pontiac, Illinois, has a long list of awards that she has earned during the season including a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-America, CoSIDA First Team Academic All-Region, MVC Golfer of the Year, MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and MVC Elite 17 Award Winner.
Her scoring average of 75.7 was the best on the squad and the sixth lowest in program history. For her career, her scoring average of 76.7 is the second lowest in program history. She was named the medalist at the 2022 Redbird Spring Invitational and was named MVC Golfer of the Week three times during the season.
Woodward, a native of Palm Desert, California, was named to the All-MVC squad after averaging 75.9 strokes per round for the season, the second-lowest scoring average by a sophomore since at least the 2009-10 season. She had two top-five finishes during the year and had four rounds at or under par for the season.
Koss, a graduate transfer from Calgary, Canada, played in 31 rounds during the season with a scoring average of 77.1, earning All-MVC honors during the year. She had four rounds at or under par, and two tournaments with top-10 finishes.
Gunaseelan, a native of Selangor, Malaysia, had a stroke average of 77.3 during the year, and had two under-par rounds for the season. She twice carded 71's on the year, one in the fall and one in March at the Red Rocks Invitational.
Kira Wolf, a transfer from Minnesota and a native of Mattoon, Illinois, played in 27 rounds during the year and had a stroke average of 78.7 with a round at par with a 72 at the Little Rock Golf Classic in October.
