Redbird Women’s Basketball Program Mourns The Loss Of Simone Goods

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball program is mourning the loss of former standout Simone Goods, who passed away on Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer.

"I know I speak for our entire woman's basketball program, and all of Redbird Nation when I say that I am beyond heartbroken by the news of Simone's passing," ISU head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "Simone was a fierce competitor on the court and was a kind soul to all that she encountered. She was a winner in all phases of her life. Her memory will always be close to our hearts, and we will honor her in all we do moving forward."

Goods joined the Illinois State program in 2017, after transferring from Kirkwood Community College where she was named the 2017 Spalding® NJCAA DII Women's Player of the Year. Her impact on the program was immediate, as she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned all-conference honorable mention honors in her first season as a Redbird. During the 2017-18 season, Goods averaged a team-high of 13.5 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per contest.

She followed up her stellar junior season with an even more dominant senior campaign, as she earned 2019 All-MVC First Team honors averaging 16.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. When her ISU career came to an end, she ranked in the top-25 in field goals made in a season (190), rebounds in a season (238), career free-throws (227), career blocks (51) and blocks in a season (33).

More details regarding memorials and visitation plans will be forthcoming once they are made available.
