NORMAL, Ill. – After opening the 2022 fall slate last weekend just down the road in Champaign, the Illinois State women's tennis team will host the first of two home tournaments this weekend as the Redbird Invitational runs Friday through Sunday at the Gregory Street Courts in Normal.
The Redbirds will play host to in-state foe Eastern Illinois as well as fellow Missouri Valley Conference members Valparaiso and Bradley over the weekend. Each day doubles action will begin at 10 a.m., followed by singles play beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Last weekend, the Redbirds opened their season at the UTR Collegiate Circuit event at Illinois. Four Redbirds made it to the quarterfinals in singles in the back draw following opening day defeats, including veterans Tara Damnjanovic and Elena Jankulovska who both won their matches to advance to the semifinals. Reigning MVC No. 1 Doubles Team of the Year Tijana Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic also picked up a big win in the doubles back draw to cap off the weekend.
