TULSA – Illinois State men's tennis standouts Nam Pham and Melker Isaksson will represent the Redbirds at the ITA Men's All-American Championships this weekend at the Michael D. Case Center on the Tulsa campus and the Case Tennis Center in LaFortune Park.
Beginning on Saturday, Oct. 1, over 500 of the nation's top collegiate tennis players from up to 100 schools will come together to play in the first major national championship of the fall season. The nine-day tournament will feature a Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw, along with a Qualifying Draw and Main Draw for both singles and doubles play. The Pre-Qualifying Rounds will take place Oct. 1-2, while the Qualifying Rounds run from Oct. 3-4. The Main Draws will span from Oct. 5-9.
Nineteen of the top twenty-ranked players in the ITA Collegiate Tennis National Preseason Rankings will compete in the Main Singles Draw.
"I couldn't be more excited to be back at this event, as it showcases the best talent around the country," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "Nam and Melker have both been working incredibly hard for this weekend, so we'll hope for some great tennis and see how it goes. The boys are ready and ready to get some wins this weekend."
Pham, the reigning Summit League Player of the Year, opens his tournament with a match at 9:45 a.m. against Mykhailo Kvantaliani of Wichita State. Isaksson will take the court at noon to begin his day against Loren Byers of Penn State.
