NORMAL, Ill. – After a strong first day of action at the Redbird Invitational on Friday, Illinois State followed it up with a stellar day on Saturday at the Gregory Street Courts going a combined 10-2 on the final day of action with a complete sweep of the third round singles matches.
The day began with two rounds of doubles play, as the Redbirds swept the first round of the day against Marquette and NIU. Tomas Valencia and Christian Capacci defeated Marquette's Perrill/Coppage, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot and Finn Logue and Caden Scarlett took down the team of Vazquez and Vazquez by a score of 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Then, Tin Ostro and Jett Leong beat Iker Dellien and Sam Klein of Northern Illinois, 6-1, to round out the first session of doubles on the day.
In the second round of doubles of the day, the Valencia and Adrian Dibildox were winners at the No. 1 spot and Capacci and Manuel Pavia picked up a victory at the No. 2 spot. Finn Logue and Caden Scarlett were also also winners on the day, defeating the team of Iker Dellien and Sam Klein, 6-1. In singles action, the Redbirds went a perfect 8-0 to cap off a strong weekend of play.
Illinois State will cap off the fall slate October 16-19 at the ITA Regionals hosted by DePaul in Chicago.
