LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State traveled to Ohio Oct. 13-14 for a two-day slate of competition vs Bobcats. Friday's action featured short course races while Saturday's competition included long course races in preparation for an Olympic year in 2024. The Redbirds fell in short course action, but outscored Ohio 137.5-122.5 in long course events.
The highlight of the weekend in the pool came Saturday as Illinois State set 11 lifetime bests and won nine events, including three breaststroke victories from 5th year Madyson Morse. In total, six Redbirds set a lifetime best time, including five who set multiple. Morse (100M Breast and 200M Breast), Cassidy Carey (100M and 200M Back), Chloe Tyler (50M and 100M Back), Diana Walker (50M and 200M Free), Lauren Wisdom (200M IM and 400M Free) all set multiple bests. Emma Feltzer also set a 50M Free lifetime best time.
THE REYES ROUTINE
Junior Eva Reyes earned Valley Diver of the Week for the second straight week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
At Ohio, Reyes swept 1M and 3M for the second straight weekend and moved her combined season record to 4-0. It is the eighth time Reyes has earned Valley Diver of the Week as a Redbird, and the second time in her career that she has done so in consecutive weeks. She also won back-to-back honors Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 in 2021 during her freshman campaign.
On Friday night, Reyes turned in a mark of 301.50 on the 3M boards, which set a personal best and ranks second in program history. The score also qualified Reyes for the NCAA Diving Zones, which she has now punched a ticket for in both 1M and 3M. She is the first diver in the Valley this year to surpass 300 in either event. To top off her performance, she posted a mark of 269.03 in 1M on Saturday to win and remain unbeaten on the young season.
