ST. LOUIS – Illinois State volleyball's Maggi Weller is one of 12 student-athletes named as a State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award recipient for the Fall of 2023 by Commissioner Jeff Jackson, the league office announced on Thursday.
The standout defensive specialist carries a 3.64 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a Graphic Communications Technology major, with a minor in Business Administration. The Geneseo, Ill., native is a three-time MVC Honor Roll member, and has also earned a spot on Illinois State's AFNI Honor Roll in all four of her semesters so far as a Redbird.
In addition to her academic achievements, Weller has continued to make an impact in the Bloomington-Normal community and on Illinois State's campus. Some of her notable volunteer work includes:
- ISU Pen Pals Program
- Taste of Redbirds Volunteer
- Reading Buddies at Area Elementary Schools
- ISU Athletics Canned Food Drive
- Illinois State University Hog Roast Volunteer
- ISU Athletics Mental Health Symposium
- Boys and Girls Club
- SAAC Representative volleyball (2022-2024)
- MVC SAAC Representative for Illinois State
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.Â
The Valley will recognize 12 student-athletes three times annually (Fall, Winter, Spring), for a total of 36 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
