NORMAL, Ill. – For the third time this week, Illinois State senior tight end Cam Grandy has been named an All-American, as he was selected to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) 2023 All-America Team on Thursday.
The 11th annual award recognizes the top student-athletes from FCS institutions across 11 different positions. The 2023 class includes student-athletes from nine different institutions, representing three different conferences. Voting was conducted by a national panel, consisting of media and sports information directors.
Grandy has now been named a First-Team All-American by the AFCA, FCS Football Central, the Associated Press, Phil Steele and Stats Perform.
A native of Benson, Illinois, Grandy was named a Missouri Valley Football Conference First-Team All-Conference performer at tight end and earned a spot on the league's All-Newcomer Team in his first season with the Redbirds. Grandy made an immediate impact for the Redbird offense after transferring from Missouri Western, as he led all tight ends and ranked 10th in the MVFC in receiving yards.Â
He ranked second on the team with 63 receptions for 612 yards with three touchdowns and averaged 9.7 yards per catch and 55.6 yards per game. Grandy recorded a season-high 112 yards on a season-best 11 receptions including a touchdown against UNI and had seven games with five receptions and 50 yards or more while playing the final four games of the season with a cast on his left hand.
From the 11 All-America Team honorees, an Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on January 3, 2024, in advance of the FCS National Championship Game. The Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year recipients will be recognized at the FCS national championship contest in Frisco, Texas, during an on-field presentation.
