Three Redbirds Earn Athlete of The Week Honors

NORMAL, Ill-. Illinois State track & field's Ariel Atias, Raydoffa Braziel, and Windsor Roberts each earned Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday, as announced by the league office. Atias was named the MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, Braziel earned MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Roberts was named the MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week following strong performances at last weekend's annual John Coughlan Invite.

Atias won the men's heptathlon with a total score of 5,266 and currently sits in second with the most points in the NCAA and leads the MVC. Atias won the 60m dash, shot put, and pole vault in the heptathlon on way to his first victory of the season.

Braziel won the men's 600m with a time of 1:22.00 and was also in the 4x400m relay team that secured first with a time of 3:25.81.

Roberts won the women's pole vault with 3.85m (12" 7.50'), which set a new Horton Field House record. Roberts currently sits in first in the MVC in the pole vault and ranked No. 24 in the nation.

The Redbirds will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Coughlan/Malloy Cup hosted by Indiana State on January 12.
