Redbird Shatters 25-year-old Record in the 800m Run

NORMAL, Ill. – A small group of student-athletes traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Valentine Invite. During this time, Riley Wells and Rachel Hickey both broke the indoor 800m run record.

"Hickey and Wells executed their races very well and came away with record they have had their eye on for several years," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jeff Bovee.

On Friday, Hickey competed in the women's 800m run, where she clocked a time of 2:06.63, breaking the Illinois State indoor record. The indoor 800m is now the third record Hickey owns.

Wells broke the mens' 25-year-old record in the 800m run on Saturday, clocking a time of 1:48.81 becoming the newest school record holder.

With Wells' record-breaking time, the Redbirds now have broken three school records in the last two weekends.

Joe Morrison also traveled to Boston where he competed in the mile run. Morrison clocked a time of 4:07.48.
