NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State baseball team had the winning run at the plate with one out in the 9th inning but dropped an 8-6 decision against Missouri State at Duffy Bass Field on Friday.
The Redbirds grounded into a double play with runners on first and second after entering the inning down 8-4.
Freshman Daniel Pacella had a trio of hits and RBIs for the Redbirds (8-12 overall, 1-3 overall). Two of Pacella's hits were doubles.
Missouri State improves to 12-12 overall and 1-3 in the MVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri State scored the game's first four runs before an RBI single by second-year sophomore Noah Rabin RBI single in the 4th inning.
The 'Birds added three more runs in the inning after a Bear error and two-RBI double from Pacella.
Missouri State scored four runs in the 7th inning to lead, 8-4.
Illinois State's first three batters reached to start the 9th inning with Pacella and fifth-year senior Connor Olson recording RBI hits before the 'Birds hit into the game-ending double play with runners on first and second.
