NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head football coach Brock Spack has rounded out his coaching staff for the 2023 season, as former Arizona senior defensive analyst Beyah Rasool has been hired as an assistant coach and will work with the team's defensive backs. Rasool fills the role vacated by Mike Banks, who took a similar role with South Dakota State.
"Rasool brings a lot of experience with him and various levels of the game, which is a valuable asset for an assistant coach," Spack said. "His background in recruiting and his work at the Power 5 level give him a different approach which will help round out our staff well. He is extremely detail oriented in the way he teaches and coaches and comes highly recommended. We have been impressed with him and are excited to work with him moving forward."
Prior to his arrival at Arizona, Rasool was a defensive assistant at Missouri working with the secondary. Rasool also coached defensive backs at Pima Community College and was the Director of Recruiting, Passing Game Coordinator and defensive backs coach at Eastern Arizona College.
"This is a great place and I have been welcomed with open arms by all of the coaches and our student-athletes," Rasool said. "I am excited to be a part of a staff where the culture of excellence is firmly in place. Coach Spack and Coach (Travis) Niekamp have set the standard for what they want this defense to be, the entire staff is committed to that and it's exactly what I want to be a part of. Joining this staff so close to spring camp is a challenge that I welcome, and its up to me to fit into what has already been established here. I want to be really detailed and consistent with our fundamentals with the corners and teach them the game of football from both an offensive and defensive perspective."
Rasool joins the staff just in time for spring workouts to begin at Hancock Stadium. The 15-practice spring session will take place until April 15, when the Redbirds host their annual Spring Showcase scrimmage at 1 p.m.
