NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State baseball team was topped by Illinois, 16-5, in front of 1,167 fans at Duffy Bass Field on Tuesday.
Illinois State (10-17 overall) stranded 11 runners despite four Redbirds recording multiple hits.
Third-year junior Auggie Rasmussen recorded three hits while fourth-year juniors Shaydon Kubo and Greg Nichols each had two hits to join second-year sophomore Noah Rabin also tallied two knocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Illinois scored the game's first eight runs before second-year sophomore JT Sokolove drove in the Redbirds' first run in the 5th inning.
Illinois expanded the lead to 12-1 through seven and a half innings.
Rabin, Pacella, and third-year sophomore Nick Strong tallied back-to-back-to-back RBI hits in the 7th inning before Nichols tallied an RBI to cut the deficit to 12-5.
The Fighting Illini scored the game's final four runs.
