NORMAL, Ill. – For the fourth time this season, Illinois State's No. 1 tandem of Tara Damnjanovic and Tijana Zlatanovic have been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
The duo continued their strong play as of late and picked up a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds, as they took the doubles point in wins over UIC and Valparaiso last week. The duo battled to a tiebreaker win on Friday against UIC's No. 1 doubles team of Agnes Gustafsson and Natali Nikolopoulou by a score of 7-6 that clinched doubles point for the Redbirds in a 4-3 team win. Then on Saturday, the pair rolled to a 6-3 win over Valpo's Olivia Czerwonka and Moira Silva to improve to 6-1 in MVC play. They have now won five matches in a row and eight out of their last 10 overall.
The Redbirds will wrap up the regular season at home, when they host Belmont on Saturday, April 15, at 2:30 p.m. With a win, ISU will end the MVC campaign undefeated and secure the outright regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the upcoming MVC Championships hosted in Normal.
