NORMAL, Ill. - Despite leading after six innings, the Illinois State baseball team dropped a 14-8 contest to Murray State.
Illinois State (10-19 overall, 2-9 Missouri Valley Conference) allowed six runs in the 7th inning to trail, 13-7.
Second-year sophomore Blake Stenger scored three runs while third-year junior Auggie Rasmussen was the lone Redbird with multiple hits.
Murray State moves to 18-17 overall, 6-5 MVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Murray State scored the game's opening run in the 2nd inning before Stenger tallied a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning to tie the game.
The Racers scored twice in the 5th inning prior to fourth-year junior Shaydon Kubo delivering a two-RBI double in the bottom of the inning followed a wild pitch to put ISU up 4-3 through five innings.
Murray State responded with three runs before giving three runs to the Redbirds in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Although the Redbirds retired the first two Racers in the 7th inning, Murray State scored six runs with two outs.
Murray State scored twice in the 9th inning to lead 14-7 and the Redbirds scored on an infield hit from freshman Daniel Pacella but drew no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stenger recorded his first start since 3/26 at Belmont.
- Rasmussen tallied his eighth multi-hit game of the season and extends his on-base streak to eight games.
- Illinois State is without a home run for six-straight games.

Illinois State is scheduled to host Murray State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT to close the series at Duffy Bass Field.
