Brandon Lieb Signs to Become Newest Redbird

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head men's basketball coach Ryan Pedon has announced that Brandon Lieb has signed on to become the newest Redbird for the 2023-24 season.

"We are very excited about the addition of Brandon Lieb," said Pedon. "His combination of size, versatility, and experience will be very important in our frontcourt. I have followed Brandon dating back to his high school career and have been impressed with the growth and maturation of his body and game while at Illinois. His frame has grown tremendously, and he has gained over 40 pounds since entering college. He comes from a program that we have great respect for and knowing that Brandon has practiced and played three years at The University of Illinois was very attractive to us. We are getting a young man who is very determined to prove himself and impact winning at a high level."

Over three seasons at Illinois, the team went 67-30 with three NCAA Tournament appearances. Last season as a junior he played in 16 games off the bench and averaged nearly one point and one rebound per game in 3.7 minutes per game. He was named Academic All-Big 10 and played in 10 games with eight points and seven rebounds. As a freshman at Illinois, he played in five games totaling four points and six rebounds.

Lieb was an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) third team All-State selection as he averaged 13.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocked shots as a senior. He helped Deerfield High School to a 20-11 overall record as a senior, including an IHSA Class 3A regional championship.

He joins former Southern Illinois guard Dalton Banks, along with a fall signing group that includes 2023 Wisconsin co-Mr. Basketball Johnny Kinziger, Illinois class 2A first team All-State honoree Ty Pence, and Division I Ohio special mention All-State honoree Chase Walker as newcomers for the squad next season.
