TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois State baseball team led through four innings but dropped a 4-3 decision at Indiana State Sunday at Bob Warn Field, closing the series.
Illinois State (10-16 overall, 2-7 Missouri Valley Conference) got a two-RBI double from Luke Lawrence, who had three hits, to lead 3-2 through four innings but the Sycamores (18-12 overall, 8-1 MVC) tied the game in the 5th inning and took the lead in the 8th inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Indiana State scored twice in the opening frame before a single from third-year sophomore Nick Strong got the Redbirds on the board with a two-out single in the 4th inning.
Lawrence delivered the big blow with a line shot to left-center field to plate two Redbirds and provide a 3-2 Illinois State lead through four innings.
Indiana State tied the game in the 5th inning and scored in the 8th inning to take the lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Fourth-year junior Jayson Hibbard matched the longest start of his career (4/2 vs Missouri State) with a seven-inning outing. Hibbard allowed three runs with four strikeouts.
- Illinois State's five through eight hitters were a combined 7-for-15.
- Sixth-year senior Kolton Scherbenske made his first appearance of the season, inducing a double play with the bases loaded in the 8th inning to keep the Redbirds within a run.
- Third-year junior Auggie Rasmussen stole his MVC-leading 13th base of the season.

Illinois State is scheduled to host Illinois on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. CT at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds also host Murray State April 14-16. April 15 is "Bark in the Park" and fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to Duffy Bass Field.
