NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State (2-4-3, 0-1-2 in MVC) drew a 1-1 tie with Belmont (1-6-5, 0-1-3 in MVC) in the third matchup of MVC play in Normal on Thursday night.
Belmont struck first in the first half coming on a goal in the 22nd minute to take an early lead. The lead remained throughout the first half, giving the 'Birds work to do in the second.
In the second half, with just ten minutes to go, Kelsi McLaughlin netted her second goal of the year on a rebound off the shot of Ava Watson, who earned a point for the assist. The Redbirds won in the total shot count with ten where the Bruins only took four.
The Redbirds and the Bruins both earned a point in conference play. This is the second draw for Illinois State who is still looking to come away with a conference play victory. The Redbirds will take on the Salukis of Southern Illinois at 1 PM CT on Sunday, at Adelaide Street Field. Redbird soccer is also set to host puppies at the pitch.
