BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – It was another strong performance for the Illinois State gymnastics team Saturday night, as the Redbirds posted another high 195 score for the third week in a row as they came in second behind host Western Michigan at the Next Level Podium Challenge at Kellog Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan.

The Redbirds got off to a great start and took the lead after the first rotation, scoring a season-best 49.025 to take a narrow lead over Western Michigan.

For the third week in a row, ISU went 49 plus on beam with a 49.075 to post a score of 48.100 halfway through as the Redbirds held onto a narrow lead.

Thanks to a stellar performance by the anchor performance for the Redbirds, they maintained their lead after the third rotation thanks to a 48.975.

The Redbirds capped things off with a 48.825 on vault in the fourth and final rotation but were clipped by Western Michigan who went big on floor to come away with the victory.
Gymnast Notes:

Alana Laster tied for the event win on vault, going big with a 9.900 ... she was followed by freshman Alexis Hope in a tie for fourth place with a 9.775.

Laster, Julia Heiner and Madison Kipp all tied for second on bars with matching scores of 9.800, with freshman Reese Grolla right behind in a tie for a third place with a 9.775.

Kipp and Mya Robinson tied for the win on beam with scores of 9.850, and freshman Ally Lau was right behind in a tie for second place with a 9.800.

Jaye Mack won on floor exercise once again for the Redbirds, as she shared the top spot on the podium with a 9.925 as Angelica Labat also found a spot on the podium in third place with a 9.875.

Labat had a great night in the all-around, finishing third overall with a 39.125.

The Redbirds return to action on Friday, January 26, at Iowa State for a 6:30 p.m. meet with the Cyclones.
