NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off a win over Western Illinois in its spring opener, the Illinois State women's tennis team returns home this weekend to host a pair of matches against in-state foe Eastern Illinois (Friday) and Omaha (Sunday) inside at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
The weekend will begin on Friday against Eastern Illinois, with first serve set for 6 p.m. and fans in attendance will receive a Redbird Women's Tennis T-Shirt while supplies last. Sunday's match against Omaha is set for 12:30 p.m., and fans will be treated to free pizza until it runs out.
"We're really excited to get in front of the home crowd," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek stated. "We feel like we prepared well and hopefully we pick up a couple of wins this weekend."
About The Redbirds
•   The Redbirds began the spring campaign last weekend with a 6-1 win in Galesburg against the Leathernecks. The lone point surrendered to WIU was by way of a withdrawal at the No. 6 singles position.
•   Doubles tandems Tijana Zlatanovic/Lana Caculovic and Nuria Sanz/Silvia Pomarolli picked up victories to secure the early doubles point before ISU went onto wins at No. 1 through No. 5 singles to pick up the victory.
•   Senior Tijana Zlatanovic was named the Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week, after she defeated Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 at the No. 1 spot.
About The Panthers
•   Eastern Illinois was selected third in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll recently, after the Panthers finished third in the regular season standings last year posting a 13-11 overall record.
•   The Panthers opened the spring season last Sunday at Illinois, dropping the opener 7-0 to the Illini.
•   Returning players Addison Brown and Jemma Booth were both competitive playing at No. 3 and 4 singles.
About the Mavericks
•   Omaha Women's Tennis was selected 6th in the 2024 Summit League preseason poll, as sophomore Zoe Adkins was named as a Summit League Preseason Player to Watch.
•   The Mavericks are off to a 2-3 start to the spring, after going 0-3 to open the season at the Hurricane Invite against Tulsa, Wyoming and Louisiana Tech, but picked up a pair of home wins last weekend against Sioux Falls and Midland.
•   UNO swept the Cougars 7-0, picking up their first win of the season, before hitting the courts later in the afternoon against Midland where they had their second sweep, winning 7-0 over the Vikings.
