Women's Tennis Travels to Charleston for EIU Panther Invite

CHARLESTON, Ill. –​​ The Illinois State Women's Tennis team will hit the road this week for the Eastern Illinois University Panther Invite from Oct. 18-20. All matches will be played inside Darling Courts.

INVITATIONAL SCHEDULE

Play is scheduled to begin at 9 am each day with doubles play being followed by singles play.

THE FIELD

This weekend's event features four schools in Illinois State (MVC), EIU (OVC), Miami of Ohio (MAC), and Purdue Northwest (Great Lakes).

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend, juniors Silvia Pomarolli and Lana Caculovic traveled to Ohio State University to take part in the ITA Midwest Regionals as both athletes advanced to day three of competition. Calculovic would fall to Ohio State's Schoenly in the consolation bracket while Pomarolli was knocked off by Fliegner from the University of Michigan.

In doubles play, the pair of Pomarolli and Caculovic advanced to day three where they were defeated by Jarmond/Weise of Marquette by a final score of 8-4.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Last weekend, EIU traveled to the Ohio Valley Conference ITA, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University. The Panthers were led by Charleigh Fay who picked up wins over SIU Edwardsville (Paige Duncan) and Lindenwood (Paola Garcia) before falling to Chloe Routier (Western Illinois) in the championship flight by scores of 6-3, 6-3.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS

Miami (OH) comes into the weekend after competing last weekend at the Ohio Valley Conference ITA Regionals, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University. The Redhawks had two players advance to day three of singles action in Sara Zalukar and Lauren Joyce. In doubles play, Joyce and Nishitha Saravanan claimed the consolation championship title.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE

Purdue Northwest (Division II) will resume play after not touching the court since September 15 at the ITA Regionals, hosted in Michigan, where the Pride recorded three singles victories and four doubles wins. Oona Kintscher, Haizea Lopez and Tamiya Linz all advanced to the championship bracket in the round of 64.

UP NEXT

The Redbirds will return home on Nov. 2, where they will take part in the two-day Redbird Duals at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
