Second Half Offense Lifts Redbirds Over Evansville, 1-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Freshman Kennedy Herman's first career goal helped extend Illinois State's (5-7-3, 3-2-2 MVC) unbeaten streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over Evansville (1-7-6, 0-4-4 MVC) Thursday on the road.

Herman struck in the 54th minute off an assist on a free kick from Jade Rehberger, earning her first game-winning goal of the year. The score was paired with redshirt freshman Madi Valenti's fourth shutout of the year, securing a win for Illinois State.

After being held without a shot in the first half, Illinois State came out strong on the offensive end in the second half, tallying eight shots on the Purple Aces, including four on frame.

Overall Evansville led the shot count 20-8 with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Illinois State tallied six corner kicks in the match, including four in the second half.

Valenti made eight saves in the shutout, including four in the second half to halt any Purple Aces comeback.

Herman is the seventh Redbird to score her first career goal this season, joining Chloe Cline (8.15, Green Bay), Sammi Cenek (8.15, Green Bay), Henderson (10.3, Valparaiso), Gricius (Valparaiso, 10.3) Aniya Seymore (10.6, Murray State), and Abby Hall (10.13, Indiana State.
