NORMAL, Ill.-- The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team collected one diving win and four swimming victories on the final day of competition against Ohio University (Mid-American Conference). The Redbirds fell to the Bobcats in non-conference competition 273-139.
The Birds secured titles from senior Emma Feltzer (x2) (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle) senior Eva Reyes (1M Diving), and junior Chloe Tyler (100-Yard Backstroke). Graduate student Cassidy Carey also claimed the 200-Yard Backstroke title.
MONEY RAISED
At the 2024-25 Breast Cancer Awareness Pink meet, the Redbirds raised 1,750 dollars. All proceeds will go directly to OSF Healthcare.
REVIEW FROM COACH HILBRANDT
Head coach Riley Hilbrandt was proud of the compete level this weekend from the Redbirds "The energy from both teams on deck this weekend was exactly what we needed to get our athletes ready for competition. Ohio is a very competitive team and our team stepped up to the challenge. The biggest takeaway from this meet was we need to take this exact energy and effort into our first travel meet coming up vs SIU and Illinois. I'm proud of our swimmers and divers for stepping up in huge ways." Hilbrandt said.
REDBIRD NOTABLE FINISHES
In the 200's- In the 200 yard Medley Relay, two teams of Redbirds finished in the top-five led by Tyler/ Sydney Hoff/ Mia Snow/ Feltzer with a second place finish . The team of Carey/ Shelby Gourley/ Giulia Basco/ Ella Turken finished fifth. In 200 yard Breaststroke, Hoff finished in the top five claiming a time of 2:27.08. In the 200 yard Butterfly, Basco (second, 2:08.17) and Carey (2:12.76) took spots within the top-five. Meanwhile in the 200 Yard IM, Delaney Boulden rounded out the Redbird lineup in fifth place clocking a time of 2:14.44. In the 200 Yard Freestyle- Emma Feltzer claimed the title with a time of 1:55.04.
In the 1000's- During the 1000 yard Freestyle Ella Glaspie (fifth, 10:45.66) and Lauren Wisdom (second, 10:39.77) clocked two times in the top five.
In the 100's- In the 100 yard Backstroke, Chloe Tyler took first place with a time of 57.52 while Delaney Boulden finished fourth clocking a time at 59.09. In the 100 Yard Breastroke, Hoff took third place clocking a time of 1:06.87. In the 100-Yard Freestyle, Feltzer (first, 52.45) and Payton Dorman (fourth, 56.01) finished at the top of the field.
In the 50's- Senior Mia Snow and Ella Turken tied for third place respectively with a time of 24. 64. This was just thirty seconds behind Ohio's second place finish from Caroline E Dunigan.
500 yard Freestyle Relay- Lauren Wisdom took second in the event clocking a time of 5:14.37.
400 yard Freestyle Relay- Three teams of Redbirds competed in this event. Team A of Feltzer/Tyler/Snow/Turken took second. Team B of Hoff/Wisdom/ Hope Westphal/ Hailey Fris took fourth. Finalizing the Redbird line-up was team C which included Lauren Hervey/Dorman/Boulden/Carey who finished sixth.
Diving- Eva Reyes and Emma Thompson landed in the top-five on the boards during the 1-meter dive. Thompson recorded a score of 236.03 (fifth). Meanwhile, Reyes took home first place posting a final score of 290.25.
UP NEXT
The Redbirds will hit the road for three-consecutive road meets at Southern Illinois/Illinois-Champaign (November 1), Purdue (November 22-23) and the US Open in Greensboro N.C. (December 4-7).
